Nothing is going to change except for the number. Minimum wage is going up, ergo, prices of EVERYTHING will go up.

This is pathetic. Raising the minimum wage will increase prices, anger those who work steady jobs for around or higher than min. wage, and will cause some people to lose their jobs. What the hell is he thinking?

Of course all you people who are 18 or so making minimum wage are going to want a increase in pay, but it won't make a difference because then everything else will have an inflation like food, entertainment, etc.
Not a very good idea in my opinion, and if there is no raise of price for everyone who works, then people are going to be laid off eventually.

Lots of companies who are scraping the very bottom just to get by can't really afford to raise up to that amount. I think loss of jobs are going to come into factor in the President's decision.

I do like the idea of minimum wage being raised, but not to $10.10- that is was to high- this would then raise the price of everything, and alot of people will be laid off.- they should at leastt raise minimum wage to $8.50 or somethinb like that.

Honestly, if it happens, I'm guessing prices will just go up on everything else. I don't know exact stats but I do know that a TON of citizens only make minimum wage. It'll set the economy out of whack even more if prices don't change but salaries go up. IMO, they most likely work where they do as a result of their own choices. If they chose to mess around in school and earn bad grades, then not go to college, it's their own fault and they deserve the $7.50. If they have their job purely to support their family because they were laid off from a previous job, then it's a completely different story.

I am in an economics class right now and we've been talking about this a lot. One of the main motives for the raising of the minimum wage is to get more people off a welfare.

Of course there is always the risk of prices of certain goods raising and a number of people losing their job.

Quite a few states already have a minimum wage above the federal minimum wage since they are allowed to regulate it. If you want a model of how it would turn out, looking at one of those states wouldn't be a bad idea.

Some of the people commenting don't quite know how inflation works.

What this is going to do is put some small companies out of business and a lot of people out of a job.

Not everyone can afford to pay their employees $10.10/hour and those who can will just cut down on their staff.
