So much this. It's mostly kids just echoing the opinions of their parents and the media. The same kids that still live under their parents' roof, not paying a single bill.

You have to think though, Minimum wage is there to help with the cost of living.. Most people can't live off 7.25 an hour.. That's barely enough to pay for bills.. 2 paydays at 7.25 an hour and say you work 30 hours each week.. You make 435 dollars not including tax.. Include state tax you make around 375-385 for one paycheck. So that's like 750 dollars a month to pay bills, buy groceries and gas costs.

Minimum wage needs to be raised because the cost of living is higher, especially here in Tennessee.

You don't get it, Say you are making 7.25$ an hour right now. You need to buy milk for cereal and it is 4.50$. Well with the minimum wage increase you get, let say 10.15$ the price of milk will go up to 7.50$ so you are paying the same amount! The American dollar will lose its value if the Federal minimum wage is increased.

Lol, a $3 raise in wage wouldn't = a $3 raise in product price.

1997 minimum wage was $5.10 I believe. $2 less than it is now. By your logic, milk then should be $2 less than it is now.

A gallon of milk was ~$3.22 in 1997. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] | [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

If you can find a $5.22 gallon of milk in the U.S. I'd like to see it.

The cost of shipping has gone down since 1997... lower shipping costs equals lower cost. It will hurt the economy subtly, but Obama will probably just lie and blame it on a different factor. There wont be a dollar menu anymore, but a "value menu" where things are $1.49 instead of $.99... Raising minimum wage isn't going to do anything. If he could lower the cost of living then he would actually be helping. But at least Obama is trying to help people. But sometimes some people deserve minimum wage...

I'd like to see a source for that and if you can provide one, it completely goes against your previous point of 'If minimum wage goes up, everything goes up!'.

Shipping costs have decreased since 1997 because of new methods, not because of minimum wage. Gas mileage has drastically increased, airplane shipping cost has decreased, and shipping in containers cost has decreased. Shipping has nothing to do with minimum wage. Semi truck drivers get paid more than minimum wage, sometimes up to $20 an hour. I never said that everything will go up, but it will be a noticeable difference to the cost of living. Let me guess here, you make minimum wage and think you deserve more?

Keep lying to yourself. The US is going down. Its not the great country it was because of the governments involvement in the economy. We believe we run a capitalism, but we're actually running a socialist economy where the government controls more than you think they do. If someone's getting minimum wage, usually theres a reason. They deserve minimum wage for not finishing school. I'm not saying everyone, like the people have actual reasons like helping their family or other reasons obviously should receive some sort of benefit, but those that drop out of high school just because they thought college would be too hard or too time consuming deserve minimum wage.so you keep lying to yourself, I'm done with this thread.

Not to be the guy who is a totally "D", but truck drivers go on mileage. The bigger the better is there motto.

On topic: Why fight about this stuff when it hasn't even been discussed by the government anyway? It's pointless, let people give there honest opinion and see what happens when the path is clearer.

Well certainly you don't think it will stay them same?
