I bought a 1TB WD Caviar Blue and plugged it into my system. It spins briefly then clicks every 3 or 4 seconds like a clock. It doesn't show up in BIOS or Windows or Mavericks, and I even tried unplugging the SATA cables from a working HDD and putting them in the new one, still not showing up. Is it fair to say this drive is DoA and that I should send it back for a return?

DOA it sounds like. Email the shop/website kindly and they should warranty it soon.

Does it show in 'Partition Manger' whilst in Windows? Maybe as a dead partition waiting to be activated...
