One thing that really annoys me, is when people "pre-judge" someone. I have experienced this throughout my life because my older brother has a illness called "Asperger syndrome/Autism". For those of you that dont understand what that is, take a look - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

I am basing this rant on behalf of the experience i have suffered with my older brother. He is 21 years old now, and will never get rid of the illness. It is something that he will live with for the rest of his life. Since i was little, i have always been a "carer" to my brother as although he was in the body of a 15 year old, he only had the mental capacity of a 10 year old. The way that my brother acts, looks like he is playing up and acting "naughty". This is due to the fact that he cant cope with certain things such as "crowds" etc. And if were in a busy shopping centre, and it gets crowded, he usually kicks off, swears etc because he cant cope. Instead of people understanding that he is in a state, they usually comment saying "look at that thug" etc.

School was tough for him, and it lead to him never going again since the first year of "year 7". This was due to people "pre-judging" him and classing him as "naughty". Although we explained the circumstances to the teachers, students etc, they still thought that he could control it. And therefore they didnt offer him any support.

Im sick of people staring, pointing and making comments on the way he is. In todays society, people only presume you are disabled if you have a facial disfigurement or if youre in a wheel chair.

If people didnt pre judge others, then i feel that my brother may have had a better start in life. However, as we live is a messed up world, its going to be a struggle for him. I can proudly say that i am going to stand by him through thick and thin. Due to his illness, he cant get jobs because of the way he is. This is because with Autistic people, they say things straight and how they are. For example, if they think of you as something, they wont think twice about saying it. Due to this, people think of these people as "nasty, horrible" people.

I think that there should be more campaigns out their giving information to everyone about illnesses such as "Autism, Asperger syndrome". I feel that if people was more aware of what this was, they would think twice about pre judging another person.

Thank you for taking the time, to read all of this long rant.
All of the information above has came from my own personal experience and is 100% truthful. If you are in the same situation as me, and you have a sibling or friend who has this illness. Feel free to add me, as i have been down that path and i know what it is like.

On a final note, i would just like to say that i hope that people find out about another person before they pre-judge. This would lead to there being a better world to live in.

I so understand, you have so many points. it's terrible how they say and do stuff to him when they don't understand it, nor understand that he didn't deserve it. I respect them, I never think of them as nasty or horrible, it's just not true.

Thanks man, yeah i know. It kills me inside as i cant do anything apart from tell them he has problems. He hates it when i kick off defending him. He doesnt deserve the crap he goes through every day. I think its more upsetting to see that he hasnt got a friend in the world, and the ones he did have used and abused him.

I completely agree with you man! I can't stand when people do that. It's just not right at all. It's sad that we have to live in a world that does such a thing. I wish your brother good luck!

I know mate, theres nothing worse. Sometime, i wish he was physically disabled. At least then, people would actually see that he had something wrong with him. Cheers for that mate, little things like that make the situation so much better. It gives me and him hope for the future.

People are just so ignorant these days it amazes me. I have a cousin who has down's syndrome and people can't help but to make disgusted faces or stuff that makes him and myself uncomfortable when we are in public places. I respect anyone who has these kinds of problems that affect everyday of their life because i myself can't imagine what they go through everyday. I believe that if we are human beings we should be treated the same no matter what race, religion, gender or syndrome. But i guess people don't understand something as simple as that. I wish you the best of luck to you and your brother.

I think that people with downs syndrome are just as beautiful as anyone else. I compeltely agree with you though mate. Its sickening that people would even discriminate against another person, when they arent perfect themselves. I could understand if its a young child that thought these people were different/weird because they dont understand. However, it is up to the parents to explain to them that everyone is exactly the same on the inside. Just because they are different on the outside, there is no way to treat them any different. I find that its usually the more matured age group that discriminate against my brother. I find that this makes is much worse, as youd think they'd know better.
