This bugs me to the core. Why...? I understand if, say, you're in 5th or 6th grade, but above the age of 13-14 and using the word "definitely" incorrectly? Defiantly and definitely are NOT the same word, you can't misspell this.

The definition of Defiantly according to Dictionary.com:

marked by resistance or bold opposition, as to authority; challenging

The definition of Definitely according to Dictionary.com:

1. in a definite manner
2. ( sentence modifier ) certainly: he said he was coming, definitely

If you use defiantly and intend to use definitely, I cannot take you or whatever you have left to express, seriously. Do any of you feel like this as well, or is this just a personal pet peeve?

I think people type what's closest then let spell check do the rest, but yes - this annoys me too!

This is defiantly a 'personal pet peeve'.

Truthfully speaking I've never understood grammar nazis, why on earth would it annoy you if someone spells a word wrong? Are you some sort of ex english teacher who takes great pride in being a bookworm? I think not, so I will never understand your reasoning. The way I see it is this is a message board, not school or college. There are also a number of reasons (or excuses as you would probably say) why people spell things wrong, such as;

1. Like I am doing right now, using a mobile phone with no spell checker.
2. Mabye english isn't the persons first language?
3. Typo (duh!)
4. Mabye they just don't give a ####?

Personally I usually type properly as a force of habit but if I make a mistake I wont fuss over it or go and edit it just to look smart or please grammar nazi's.

P.S I am not hating, I just completely disagree that you imply everyone should have perfect grammar on a message board.

This annoys me too.
It's actually the auto-correct on iOS devices.
