I prefer Windows 7 because most steam games do not support linux. Also I am just so used to Windows 7

windows 7 obviously but if your in the market for one, id go for win8 i really only hated by those who dont understand it

hmm i think i strongly gonna say Windows 7! because Windows is easy to use and fun.

Not true. I understand Windows 8 and hate it. It's ugly and just terrible all round IMHO. I purchased a laptop with Win8 and had to install Win7 to it because I hate Win8 that much, I won't even have it on my secondary computer. It just feels like a horrible experience all round IMO.

The only reason I can think of that you would benefit from Win8 would be if you had a touch screen.

I love my laptop which runs off of Linux, but compatibility is an issue and there is little in the way for games. Get Linux on a SECONDARY PC, not your main rig.

Just duel boot them as linux is unsupported in the gaming world, but it's getting better with steamOS and maybe in 6 months to a years time we'll see a lot more supported games and drivers.

Windows 8 does have much better game performance than 7 it's also going to be supported for much longer.

Linux is free whereas Windows isn't, so that should make up your mind.
