This may be helpful for some. DayZ Standalone only!




When reloading the magnum while there are still rounds in the weapon, you must drag the ammo from under the magnum icon in your hands tab, into your inventory tab. Once it's in a slot in your inventory, there should be no number signifying how many rounds are in that slot. Just right click, and select eject, and it should automatically go into another inventory slot (or stack with another set of rounds).

To change weapon while running (not sprinting), the item currently in your hands has to be in the lowered position (spacebar to switch) and then you can simply press one of the number keys to switch to whichever item you want (pistol, canteen, whatever). The only exception to this, that I've found, is the magnum, which stops you after the animation has completed, regardless of which position your previous item was in.

You can't shoot through metal staircases in ATC Towers or Firehouses.

IF you have a mouse which has bindable keys for your thumb, these are my recommendations. (I have 4, but if you have a naga or something then play around with it)

CAPS LOCK for direct chat with other players.
ALT to look around quickly
Num. Pad Enter to switch from 1st to 3rd person (vice versa)
The last could either be V to jump, or TAB for inventory or something. Maybe even a number to quickly switch to an axe or something.

If you have a few spare backpack slots, put your melee weapon in it to conceal yourself better. If you play on first person servers, it's especially good to see behind you. (using ALT)

This one may seem a little more obvious, but a lot of players haven't worked this out yet. Make sure whenever you get the chance, pick up protector cases, ammo boxes and first aid kits. These all hold a fair number of items, but only require four inventory slots. The ammo boxes hold up to 10 stacks of any ammunition, so it's definitely worth having at least one, if possible.

Occasionally, when trying to fill canteens from rivers it doesn't work AT ALL. For this, you must be in first person mode (Num. Pad Enter key to switch view modes). Filling up should now be fine.

Long Range scopes, when damaged, cause bullets to go slightly to the left when taking shots from a distance.

Raising your FoV will cause the zoom on scopes to be lessened. The lower the FoV, the greater the scope zoom (you can essentially use the PU Scope as a Long Range scope on the default FoV with this)

When you have been injured (via zombie or player) there is a chance of becoming sick. Treating your wounds with Alcohol Tincture will alert you that your character is sick; cleaning your wounds doesn't MAKE your character sick, it only alerts you. After using, you should see messages on the bottom left that look something like: 'my wounds hurt less'.

When picking up first aid kits, for the moment, water purification tablets, syringes and blood bags are practically useless (unless you plan on being naughty with the blood bags hahaha). I'd recommend only taking bandages, IV start kits, saline bags, morphine, epi-pens, alcohol tincture, charcoal tabs, antibiotics and painkillers.

When prone, rolling using E or Q is the only effective way to ensure you're making absolutely no noise.

Any kind of clothing that covers your face WILL get you killed on sight, the majority of the time. People just don't trust anyone with a ballistic helmet and gas mask.

Try wearing some civilian clothing instead of complete military gear. It might stop you getting KoS'd by a considerable margin (My character looks like this, more oft than not)

Ballistic helmets are only effective if you're playing with someone. If you're lone wolf, a headshot will still knock you out, regardless, and if there's no one there to epi-pen/defib you, you're as good as dead anyway.

The fastest way to run, from my experience, is with your bare hands raised.

Bayonets have NO use atm, other than to open tins. Don't put that ridiculous radio antenna on your mosin, it'll just get you noticed more quickly.

Hunter backpacks are the best in the game. Period. If you're willing to give up 5 extra slots on the mountain backpack for a significant improvement in camouflage, the hunter backpack should be your choice. Mountain backpacks stick out like a sore thumb, especially when hiding in pine trees or lying prone. Total giveaway.

Not all M4's were made equal. Standard parts, pristine or badly damaged, are not as good as third party attachments. They can improve accuracy significantly (from my personal experience). Now, obviously all-pristine standard parts are better than all badly damaged third party attachments, but on a level playing field, go for the latter.

Bipods on the Mosin decrease your accuracy when deployed if you're not in prone position (possibly due to extra barrel weight?)

Keep your ammo for reloading your weapon in the highest slot in your inventory to reduce drag time and, in turn, overall reload time. Always handy in a fire-fight.

And finally, NEVER EAT THE ROTTEN FRUIT. Not even once
