Man, I've worked with Social Media sites even the biggest ones - they are DEDICATED work - if you are wanting to become known for what you can do, I wouldn't use a Social Media website with MySQL. MySQL can only allow a certain amount of data before all your tables/databases crash and corrupt; try learning Ruby-on-Rails it is such a relief to Social Media sites. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Vine, etc... all use Ruby-on-Rails.

OT: If you ever need someone to help with the overall design of the website I would be glad to help you. I have a Associates degree in Dynamic Web Development and I have great work with Twitter Bootstrap 2.x or 3.x.

No, data won't ever corrupt itself unless with poor human intervention or poor database design.
There's no upper limit for the size of a MySQL database.
Facebook and Myspace don't use ruby on rails.
Only for very large and complicated systems is the database system a concern.

Facebook

Youtube
- Some may be wrong currently but they have definitely at the very least used MySQL in the past.

Databases usually have limits on how much data they can hold thus a crash like you claim is probably never gonna happen. Multiple databases can be used - although 1 can usually suffice; even for pretty large sites. Also you do realize that learning Rails wouldn't mean sh*t in terms of databases as it's just changing the way you access and manipulate the DB.

Also, no offence, bootstrap is a cop-out for people who can't do CSS. Just makes a website look generic and sh*t.

Now everyone has said that, it's made me feel low about this. Every time I have high hopes for this project, it seems to fade very quickly with the comments. I'm not wanting the same amount of traffic as Facebook, I'm just wanting people to have fun as I have ideas about implementing things. I've got a lot done today with adding so many features too.

Don't ever let anyone get you down. Stick at it and you may end up the same size as Facebook. When Mark Zuckerberg started thefacebook, he never intended it to be a worldwide company. It was always a way of integrating each house of Harvard together, and slowly expanded.

I'd probably change the like button and the thumbs up to something else, more unique based around your own idea. I say this because in the future if you do grow, other sites will look for any excuse to eliminate you so they grow. That thumbs up and like is a great example for facebook to start a lawsuit. That being said, I actually like the design. Don't give up on it and try to release it. It'll grow if you get a good startup number. E-Mail it to a few friends, they'll pass it on. Or you can post it on facebook.
