The patch has nothing to do with it. E-74 is a problem with the chips on the bottom of the bottom of the board, or a bad heatsink. Xclamp fix the xbox, then reflow it, and to top it all off add some Arctic Silver Thermal Compound to the GPU. That should bring the box back to life with very slim chances of RROD.

e74 will come back again man, reflow and xclamp hybrid will take it away for a month maybe 2 but my legit xbox got e74, i kept it around til the point where it needed to be opened and fixed every 2 days before screen would get static lines and then e74 on reboot worst error an xbox can get imo, other then 0110 which i currently have on 2 jtaggables and is usually unfixable. at least with e74 u can get it working for a month or two for a resell. I suggest u get rid of it asap to some sap on craigslist and buy a new one fresh off ebay not some hammydown on ttg. good luck and if u want any help fixing it let me know ill tell u how to heatgun for less then 20 dollars *and its reuseable* all u need is electrical tape bubble wrap and tin foil and a home depot heat gun.

The easiest way to fix e74 is to unplug all external memory units, such as hdd's usbs, etc. Then turn it on with them all out and it should work. Thats what fixed my regular xbox and my jtag. Let me know if i helped. (;
