If you really want a mac and gaming then get a hackintosh
If it needs to be portable, Mini ITX system and attach the monitor on the side of the case.

I don't think anyone really noticed what he said. Its a gift to him. For college. I doubt college will allow a pc with a monitor into a classroom. and where would he plug it in. A laptop might very well work. Just not great. all depends on the spec.

Why is everyone telling him to get a pc, that's not portable. He will probably want a portable device for college, I'm sure it will be fine if it's not intensive gaming.

I have a laptop for about couple of years now and it's much bigger than a Mac Book Pro but I can play most games like Minecraft at 60 fps or maybe some other games.
It's a Toshiba Satellite btw

If you really want to enjoy PC gaming a mac won't do it. It might have a graphics card but a PC is your best bet.
