They're not horrible CPU's, however, the i5-4570 beats it and the FX series are dead. They're still okay, if you have to get one. Just go with Intel over AMD if you can afford it basically.

You made a tear come to my eye. Amd in my opionion should only be used for cheap builds however future amd cpu may run nicer with amd gpu

I saw someone mention that FX series AMD CPU's are not to par and this is certainly not true, for the money an FX 6300 is an amazing CPU, I've been using mine for over a year now and the performance has never wavered. Also for the cheaper price of the CPU I was able to put in an R7 265 card, which outperforms the 750ti in most if not all cases. This is not a build with more than minimal overclocking in mind, the Board is not the best for it and an aftermarket Heatsink is not included either. Just bear this in mind OP.

Final price: $498.91
As far as I am aware, AMD have discontinued the FX series of CPU and there will be no further updates/upgrades. AMD are basically ignoring the AM3+ socket now which is why I wouldn't recommend it. This would explain why the FX series of CPU's are incredibly cheap. The i5-4570 out-performs the FX-6300 in every aspect anyway so the i5 would be a better choice, regardless. There is no doubt that AMD CPU's are good, they are but if you have the money for Intel over AMD, then go Intel(at the moment). Choosing between the R7 265 and the GTX 750 Ti is a close call, the R7 265 is slightly better but also costs a little more. I'd usually recommend the R7 265 over the GTX 750 Ti, unless it is not within your budget.

The intel CPU would obviously be a better performing choice, however the price difference is to a margin that it would be expected. I just don't see the huge justification in a 4th Gen i5 processor in a $500 budget build, when the money could be better used elsewhere.

Edit: Also on [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] Recommended build, it may just be a pet peeve of mine but I never recommend a single Stick of Memory, I'd rather have one of my 4GB sticks fail and still have 4GB until I get a fix rather than a cheaper single 8GB, that if it ever fails I'm screwed. The PSU also I'm not sure about, I can't find many reviews or positive info on it.

The performance difference between the i5 and FX-6300 is quite significant. If you look at the $500 I recommended, it contains an R7 260X and an i5-4570. The 4570 will out-perform the FX-6300(significantly, as I have already stated) and the performace difference between the R7 260X and the R7 265 isn't actually that large. Yes, the R7 265 is better, but only slightly. For $40 less, OP could have the R7 260X which performs nearly as good as the R7 265. IMHO, the i5-4570 combined with an R7 260X is going to be a better build than an FX-6300 combined with an R7 265.

Edit- I agree with you about the RAM though. IMO, 2 stciks of 4GB are better than one 8GB stick.
Edit#2-For an extra $1 on my recommended builds, the RAM could be changed to this;

Only reason I suggested the one stick of 8GB is because I rushed through the build and never even noticed 2x4GB is superior to 1x8GB IMHO.

Yes, an i5 4570 would be superior than the i3 I have provided, but the performance difference between the two is not as significant as the difference of the GTX750 against a R9 270.

Difference between CPU's:

Difference between GPU's:

Not including gaming results which is where the R9 270 excels. You can look up games benchmarks of both GPU's so you can see for yourself.

About the 4GBx2 vs 8GB. I will give you a fact rather than an opinion on why a single stick is better in this case. If you wanted to upgrade to 16GB you will need to replace the remaining sticks with two sticks of 8GB rather than adding a single 8GB stick to complete the 16GB.

2x4GB. Add 2x4GB at a later date. Granted your motherboard would have to be compatible with 4 sticks of RAM. I don't mean that 2 sticks are superior to 1 as a fact, because it's not. It really comes down to your personal preference in the end IMO. I also think it looks nicer having 2 stick, instead of 1. I have a kind of weird OCD like that, 1 stick of RAM just makes the inside of my PC look untidy..

I know what you mean by how would it look, but in this case where the motherboard only supports two sticks a single stick wouldn't look the same as it would on a motherboard that supports four sticks. Then imagine only having two sticks in a X79 motherboard. That would make me cringe every time I look at the inside.

I suppose that's a good point. Idk, I just have a weird thing about the way the inside of a PC actually looks, kind of a weird OCD.

I see the inside of my PC on a daily basis and it drives me nuts. Cable management sucks, dust everywhere, ugly motherboard etc.. I want an entire new build just because of how ugly mine is.
