I'm thinking about buying a new processor, an i5-4670K. At the moment I have an i3-2120 which is an LGA 1155 socket. If I want the i5, which is an LGA 1150 socket, will I have to replace my motherboard?

Yes, they're different sockets. I have the same LGA 1155 and check ebay and there're loads with that socket.

Do I need an expensive motherboard? Do they do more than the cheaper ones?

Yes you can get cheaper ones but the cheaper you get the worse. They might not even support the new gen processors or only support 2gb RAM. So make sure you get a compatible up to date one.
