Did the hdd come from that computer before? Because if it came from another computer and still has windows on it, that can happen when it tries to boot more than one os. Other than that have u checked the jumper settings on it and also checked the bios?

The bios recognizes the drive, and the drive has only been used for games i know for sure

Im guessing its a ide hdd, on the back usually inbetween the ide cable and power cable there are usually about 6 - 8 pins. Then 1 or 2 plastic clips join certain pins together to tell pc if it is a master or slave drive, usually the sticker on hdd will explain what position to put them in for master or slave. It should be set to slave.
