Don't get the i7 over the i5 OP, Unless you will make use of the 4 extra threads, you're throwing $100 away that could be used on your Graphics Card that would actually improve your build in gaming. Also If you wont be overclocking there's no need for a unlocked CPU and a Z97 chipset.

I already got a pretty good Graphics card I have a 660 TI, but you were saying something about not getting a i7? Should I get the Asus board and i5 then?

I am thinking of overclocking and I have some stock case.

You don't need to spend $180 on a board. You can get everything you need for under $120.

Stock case? Get this instead;
Still cheaper than the Gigabyte Z97X with the i7 4770K or the Asus board you provided with the i5 4670K.

Don't spread false information. The Z87 and Z97 chipset support LGA1150 so will both support the same CPU's. Their are hardly any differences between Z87 and Z97 chipset motherboards so either are fine.

OP-If you're not over-clocking, no need for Z87/Z97 chipset mobo or a K class CPU. I would recommend the newer Intel CPU series. I'd suggest the i5-4590 or the i5-4690K(if over-clocking). No need for an i7 unless you are going to make use of the hyper-threading. If your build is solely for gaming, the i5 will perform better most of the time. The money saved on CPU and mobo could go towards a higher end GPU.

You sir are completely wrong about that, if you read about the Z97 chipset and the next generation chips, you'd know that Devil's Canyon will only be able to be used on the Z97 chipset. And if an i7 is within your budget, then there should be no reason not to get it, it will allow for significantly better everyday performance.

It's been said by multiple motherboard manufacturers that there z87 boards will support devils canyon.
