I have a 160gb HDD formatted for a JTAG and it doesnt work for retail consoles.
What really differs between the two?

You probably have it formatted in FAT32 for the exploited console. Retails won't read FAT32.

I appreciate it, I wasn't sure about retails.

Retails require a proprietary MSFT security sector. You can actually flash that to some specific models of "standard" hard drives but only in the same capacities that exist in official drives. So you can do 20gb, 60, 120, 250 and 320.
With a rgh it doesn't care about the security sector so any HDD will work.

Like he said, I wouldn't see why you would have a problem unless its formatted to FAT32. I've even threw on a retail HDD and used the content off of it on my RGH without any issues. Just reformat it to the right settings and you should be alright.

Just to be clear - you can use a retail HDD in an RGH, but you cannot use a RGH HDD in a retail (unless it's been flashed with that security sector)
