Is it impossible to be successful on YouTube?

Okay, maybe not impossible, but it's got a lot harder; right?
You see all these HUGE Youtubers: Syndicate and Pewdiepie to name a few...
They make money from YouTube, simple...

With so much competition and YouTube growing, it's getting harder to become well known.

Is there a point in starting a YouTube career in 2014/2015?

Those are my questions.

I'd love to know your opinions!

EDIT:
I'm not starting a YouTube channel anytime soon.

I can see where your coming from, like getting your name out there etc...

My guess would be try it out for 3 months and see what happens during that 3 months

Unless your content is; A) Absolutely groundbreaking, B) Likely to induce small children to enjoy your channel (As we all know, that's how PewDiePie finds success), no.

EDIT: Also, as what GasMonkey said. Start out, if you don't see exponential growth in 3-6 months, quit.

longer any site/business is around its going to get harder to move up. because theres others are going to continue to grow and if there already up there they will too. just means you have to put in more effort to catch them and maybe pass them. Hard work always pays off

Give it a try, set yourself realistic targets and work hard to achieve them. From the off I would suggest making sure your equipment is up to scratch as people nowadays will not watch anything under 720p.

Anyone can be successful on youtube, it all comes down to content and you being passionate and hardworking.

Good luck!!

You guys are all right, with equipment etc.

But surely if someone wanted to watch minecraft, they'd watch Syndicate, Yogscast etc.
If they wanted to watch random videos, they'd watch PewDiePie, Smosh etc.

So why would anyone go to a channel with 100 subs instead of someone with millions?

yes dont do it as a job at first until you can make it as a job. if that makes sense . some of the big names content is getting crapper like Ksiolajidebt who just screams like a 2 year old. just dont give up put in hard work try new stuff and be consistent.

Good Luck

Although it is very hard to get known on youtube now with such the big community and everyone watches the "well known" up loaders instead of the underground users, It is still possible to have a youtube career.
My friend is only 14 and he just reached 10k subs, He is partnered with some company and he gets paid about 1k a month for his work. I know it's not much but it is especially good for his age. It may be useless to try start a youtube career but as my friend did, just keep uploading, it dosent matter if you reach 15 views on every video, eventually you will reach a fan base and start to get known.
