I wouldn't bang on the console...do this:

1. Power down system with game inside
2. disconnect power brick from outlet AND from the console
3. Press the power button on the console 2-3 times (discharges it)
4. Reconnect your cables and reboot

Your disc should read, I have 2 day one editions and the one upstairs has issues reading games. This solution seems to work best for me until I decide to make a warranty claim.
