16gigs of ram? Why? Thats a waste of money..
your amd build is a train wreck.. 16gigs of ram a locked cpu with a aftermarket cooler and with a mobo that dupports ocing same problems with nividia build. You dont need to have two builds one nividia and one amd gpu thats like making one build with a worse gpu than the other for no reason.
This is what I would do OP. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

No need for that PSU, you can spend less that will not make a difference.
Unless he's going to get x2 GPU.
I set that up so he could SLi/Crossfire later on when needed, those cards are more than enough to run current games on ultra 8xmsaa AA 1920x1080, and when they are outdated he can add another one if he chooses.

I thought it was the 4690k but I guess not, I don't know what else OP is gonna be doing.
Also I wanted him to choose Amd or nVidia as everyone has their own personal preference and both cards are similar. Build was not a trainwreck, it can easily be changed to an 8gb...
Also you have liquid cooling and an unlocked cpu but a 500w PSU???!?? And why a micro?
Here is an updated build OP [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Meant to add an unlocked cpu, didn't realize it wasn't. Also 16 gbs because I didn't know what else he wanted to do.
The 750w power supply Is overkill also the 760 is underpowered for a 1k plus build there was no metion of a os needed or a optical drive. The matx route wouldve been cheaper and would've allowed for you to upgrade the parts to higher standards. Also lets say it was an unlocked cpu the aftermarket cooler would not keep the cpu cooled to adequate temps to allow for good overclocks.. besides all that the ram and the locked cpu the build looks alright...ish..

theres still another 80ish watts for the power supply t9 output. Tbh I shold of went with a cheap 600 watt..
matx boards and cases are alot of the time cheaper. I dont have a preference If I have cash for one or the other I get the better card I could be amd or nividia I couldnt really care less in this case the 280x is better so thatd be the smarter out of your 2 builds to pick.

750w is not overkill for an unlocked cpu. 760 wasn't even the primary build it was if he didn't want the 280x. Both of those cards can run any game highest settings and get at least a stable 60-70fps. They will be fine for at least 2 years, then he can add another or get a new one. If you look at my previous post I had updated it. Also an optical drive so he doesn't have to deal with usb drivers, 15$ is nothing for all the hassle saved. The cooler is plenty for OCing, he should be able to get a stable 4ghz at LEAST on that cpu.
mATX wouldn't have been much cheaper and doesn't allow for much upgrade space.
