This is old stuff right here. Just download a .cfg mod menu. That should do the trick.

Got a phone with more than 5 MB storage free that you can sync up to your PS3? Camera? Anything with internal storage that you can sync to a PC and PS3 will work, you don't even need folders on it

Feel like a proper fool, just can't understand how to do it at all. That's really why I was asking if anyone would be able to do it for me, maybe in one of those lobbies that they are hosting?

Download any CFG menu.
Take the buttons_default.cfg file and put it on any storage device, NOT IN ANY FOLDERS AT ALL.
If there are any extra folders with the .cfg, throw them in there too.
Plug the device in the RIGHT, not left, RIGHT USB slot on the front of your console.
Join any CFG lobby, back out, then go to Splitscreen.
From splitscreen, you create or load any random save you want, really doesn't matter. You then go to PlayStation Network Unlocks and set it to be ON.
Start the game, sometimes it'll back out instantly, sometimes it'll load into the map, either way doesn't really matter.
If the game loads into the map, spawn in and press Select, then D-PAD Up and your menu should open, if it does, you're fine, if not, you've gone wrong somewhere.
If the game exits before the map is loaded, back out to the menu, go Online, select private match, set the settings to whatever you want, any map/game mode/time limit etc, and start the game. Same rules apply, press select then D-PAD up, if it opens the menu, you're fine. If not, re-read the steps and try again.
WARNING -- YOU CANNOT DO THIS WITH THE DOWNLOADED VERSION OF THE GAME, IT MUST BE ON A DISC
