what is considered a good graphics card? would a laptop with a 2 gigabyte graphics card be considered very powerful?

You can't hook up a desktop GPU with a laptop if that's what your intending to do.

no i never said anything about a desktop GPU. im talking about the size of the graphics card i should choose for my gaming laptop

The amount of VRam doesn't really matter, but 2gb is a good size.

What really matters is the model, this tells us how well it will be able to process game information.

The amount of VRAM means nothing, it's the GPU and memory speed that is important. Post what model GPU a laptop you're thinking of buying has if you want any info on it's gaming potential. Also include if the laptop is running SLI GPUs

this is the build im roughly coming up with. its well within my budget and it looks decent.

do you think it could do very well for gaming??

It tells you what fps you get in games like tomb raider and BioShock so you should be able to tell how good it'll be by yourself..
