So i am upgrading to windows 8 and im wondering if i can upgrade to 64bit from 32 bit. I know you cant do so without wiping everything, so would it be possible to backup everything on an external hard drive? like would all my steam games ect still work on the 32 bit to 64 bit? thanks

You need to do a clean install, which will delete all your data, so you can back your data up first, and recover it after a clean install.

Yh your steam games will work fine,
just drag the root steam folder from your program files and when you reinstall steam, drag all the games files into the new steam folder.
Just something, from past experience i wouldn't recommend upgrading to windows 8, id rather goto win 7 64 bit, but thats just my opinion right
