How do i add a picture to my patterns ?

How do you mean a picture to your patterns?
Do mean you want something to repeat as a pattern in the Pattern options within blending and fill modes??
If it is what I said there:
Open the picture separately
Edit
Define Pattern
Give it a name and then you can now find it in your pattern options
