The American flags placed above the Brooklyn Bridge were apparently bleached into white flags Tuesday morning, leaving New Yorkers and law enforcement authorities baffled as to who or why anyone would do such a thing.
According to theAssociated Press, the New York Police Department believes a group of four or five people is responsible for the incident. Security footage reportedly shows the suspects walking along the bridges footpath around 3:10 a.m. About 20 minutes later, the light on the bridges Brooklyn tower goes dark, while the light on the Manhattan tower goes out 12 minutes after that.
The NYPDs deputy commissioner for counterterrorism and intelligence, John Miller, said that authorities do not suspect a link to terrorism, a sentiment that was backed up by Police Commissioner William Bratton.
The incident raised concerns about lax security at one of the United States most famous landmarks, particularly since the site is subject to widespread security in the form of 24-hour surveillance by patrol cars as well as cameras at the base of the bridge. Additionally, the trespassers also had to scale a bridge cable and locked gate in order to gain access to the top of the towers.
It amazes me nobody saw anything...Im upset, bridge painter Nick Krevatas, who was called to switch the white flags with American ones on Tuesday, said to the Post. Isnt there a better way to express yourself, couldnt they have used social media?
Logistics aside, the purpose served by replacing American flags with white ones remains unclear. Police dont suspect that politics are a motivating factor, but they did not rule out the possibility that its all part of some kind of art project.

Disgracing one's flag isn't amusing at all. I find this quite disrespectful. To anyone that messes with our flag like that is an ass.
Off topic, I would not climb that high on that bridge to pull a stunt like that for a so called "art project"

That is a disgraceful thing to say. I may not love the people who represent this country, but I live in this country and under its stars and stripes and those who died defending (Or attacking for no reason *Ahem* Thanks congress *ahem*) I will always support the flag. This is complete bullshit that someone would do this.

If this was an art project, I wonder if we will see the finished project ever. Not sure if they would want to out themselves after it got this big, or they just wanted it to get this big. As much as I don't like vandalism and trespassing, this is (well, should be) only a minor problem. Now, you just need to get people up there to replace them and up the security. It isn't like they were one of the original flags. Those flags are just colored fabrics that are copies of the original. Again, I am still curious about this apparent "art project."

It's just a publicity stunt really. Or some drunk college kids who are into parkour just had a really dangerous idea, either way I give them props getting past security and scaling a very large structure just to pull a prank.

Why don't they just take it down and replace it instead of making a big commotion..

If they wanted to make it a legitimate symbol, they should have had the American flag over a white flag.
Regardless, this kind of thing is going too far when he haven't quite lost, yet.
