If it is anything like every other game with a ranking system, you should be able to keep your character. Since, it was an OPEN beta. Everyone did have a chance to play it.

Well just need to wait and see. But I'm sure they will tell us before the entire game comes out, I think they've given quite a lot of information through social media as well as kept us in the loop with current events.

I could say that if they did allow us to keep our characters it would not effect the gameplay of the game at all. The missions/strikes you do on Earth are a representation of the full game's Earth (without access to a few areas). So this means that the beginning of the game (Earth) was mean't to be played from level 1 to level 8. Old Russia is the only playable area on Earth so everything level 8 and up is on other planets/play areas. Considering that the beta was open to the public there would be nothing holding Bungie back from allowing us to keep our progress. So you can expect a transfer but don't get your hopes up. Also to those saying that it maybe unfair, it literally only takes 2 hours or less to get to level 8 and all the gear at that point means nothing.. Hope I made a informative point.
