I bought a graphics card but it's unfortunately not working. I'm not very tech savvy but know basics. I have 1gb of ram. It's a windows xp computer. When I insert the graphics card and turn the pc on it will not do anything. The card is recognised though as the fan on it spins. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is a Radeon hd 6670

Have you tried installing the drivers for the graphics card as that's usually what you need to do.

You shouldn't have just gone and purchased one, it may not be compatible with your PC. If you only have 1gb of RAM it's most likely a very old PC and not compatible with the card. If I was you I wouldn't have bothered if I only had 1GB of RAM.

Edit: Run with your old card and install the drivers for the new card. May work, may not.

Okay, I tried a different monitor with the new card and it worked. Installed the drivers but the install wouldn't more for over an hour. Tried to restart the install but it wouldn't let me, turned the pc off and back on and now it won't boot with the new card again

The computer probably isn't really compatible.

Any computer running XP is just too old

I was having the same problem with my new card, if you're using a vga/dvi cable make sure it's unscrewed on both sides and just have the middle part really tight into the card, sometimes it doesn't reach the full end and doesn't send a signal to the monitor. Other then that it's most likely your RAM. Your boot requires RAM and without enough it won't be able to power your GPU therefore powering your computer.
