The ranking system is round to down, but with that comes kills of course. You just need to continuously get to high rounds and don't get down. It's average rounds to average downs per game, so say you get to rounds 25, 30, 42, 20, and 50, your average round is about 33, and if you get only one down or less per game you should rank up fairly fast. You also need a certain number of public zombie matches played to rank up. What I did to get shotguns really fast is I played solo and got to high rounds 30-50+ and then played public matches and ranked up to shotguns in under 48 hours, but keep in mind that this was a new account. It could take longer if you have over 1000 downs. Hope I helped

It's about the K/D not the rounds. On this account, the highest round I've been on is 20 (Just for an expermiment) I have 48k kills and 81 downs. i got shotguns the second I got 23k kills with 10 downs. I've never played public either. Only custom games on easy

Yes, it's not always been about k/d
But go and make it to round 66 and let your friend get all of the kills, you will not rank up at all sadly.

60-100 kd: Knife
200+ kd: Shotguns

when I hit 12k kills I got knife
when I hit 23k kills I got shotguns
Never been passes round 20 on the account btw, I got on Origins and kill the zombies the infinitely spawn from the generator on round 1
