I found this car I really like and want buy but I can't get the carfax. Whenever I put in the VIN it tells me that I need to purchase a membership. Is there anyway to bypass that?

It still brings me to the checkout thing when I enter the VIN number.

Unfortunately, there is no way to bypass it. At dealerships around here you, the buyer, have to pay for the carfax report. And even at that point, you may not be told everything that has happened to the vehicle in question.

Carfax will only show what has been reported to them. It's still a good place to start when buying a used car, but you should always get an opinion from a mechanic you trust.

Carfax reports aren't free. The only way you get free ones are from Carfax Advantage Dealerships where a dealership has to provide you the Carfax for free. If you're buying from a private seller, it's their choice on whether or not they want to pay $40 for the report. If you're buying from a private seller, just make sure you test drive and check what you need before you make the owner go and provide you a report if he hasn't already. People will get mad if you use the Carfax as a deal breaker. Actually come check out the car and be interested like it has a clean Carfax and then when they give it to you, you have the choice to still pursue the car or leave because the Carfax wasn't sufficient to your standards or you didn't like the condition of the car.
