okay so ive been researching a load about apple releasing the IOS 7+ operating systems and apparently apple have messed up due to increasing the temprature and the basic load of the phone which causes the wifi chip to grey out and stop working...

i was wondering would this happen if i use the wifi in short slots? like 2 hours a day

ive purchased the 4s for 130 from ebay but im questioning it now.

The wifi will be fine no matter how long you use it. Apple didnt mess up. If your device has a problem with wifi you can have the antennea replaced.

If it was a serious problem it would have made the news and apple would have fixed it if it was a software problem.

I haven't heard of the problem. You should be fine. If you're worried, these bugs can be resolved via software updates and the 4S is going to be supported by iOS 8.

There is nothing you can do or not do that would cause the wifi to grey out. Except maybe a hard drop... that might do it but still not likely. Use the wifi however you like.

What causes the greyed out wifi is the wifi module on the logic board going bad or becoming disconnected. If it's becoming disconnected take a heat gun or rework station and resolder the chip to the board. If that does not work then the chip is bad and beyond repair. You can try replacing it but that's a lot more difficult.

Edit: It's not an antennae issue. If it was a problem with the antennae your wifi would not be greyed out it just would not pick up any wifi networks.

They made a bug for mostly iPhone 4/4S's I had the same problem, I simply downgraded my iOS and waiting until the bug was fixed, but then upgraded to a 5S.

If you downgrade and it still messes up, Its normally the top Antenna Flex Cable.

Or you'll have to buy the speaker phone and Antenna replacement together.

Its a really cheap and easy fix.

I've had my iPhone 4s on iOS 7 since release and just to be safe I did replace my Wi-Fi antenna but that because I was warned.
