Sanctorum wrote Seems like a nice way to waste money. 16GB RAM is pointless. 8GB does the job for gaming. Only reason for 16GB RAM is if you're doing a lot of editing/rendering which if you were, an i7 would be a better choice than an i5. Considering you can get a 5TB HDD for 168 or a 4TB HDD for 104, that 1.5TB was a huge waste of money. No need to spend that much on a case. Windows could have easily been obtained for free instead of wasting money paying for it. Razer products suck and are a waste of money. Could have bought a much better keyboard with 100. 2 different size and brand monitors would look ugly. If you're using multiple monitors, it would look much nicer to have the same models. I use 3x Samsung 22" monitors which cost 90 each.

I got the case because I liked how it looked, not based on price.

That HDD was a place holder, I got it from another build and that was the first 1.5TB I saw so I put it in.

I do a bit 3D modelling at uni so that's why I want 16GB (also so I have more than my friend, lol).

The i7 is a waste of money as it is like 200 extra and it only renders up to 20% faster, which to me isn't worth the money.

Also I don't care that my peripherals are from different manufacturers, they are the ones I like.

I would replace that processor with a Pentium as it'll be better in the long run.

I have no idea where you're getting £200 from? The i7-4790k is £80 more expensive than the i5-4690k. 16GB RAM would be £60 more expensive than 8GB RAM, at least. That extra £60 could have gone to an i7 which would have been much more beneficial since a lot of editing/rendering softwares will utilize the i7's hyperthreading which an i5 doesn't offer. Buying a case simply because of the way itlooks is stupid. You should get something nice, as well as practical. You could have got a nice looking case for much less.

What is the benefit of getting a pentium than an i5?

I will have a look at some i7 processors and to be honest 200 is a random number I plucked out the air (on an educated guess) because I was too lazy to look it up haha.

What i7's would you say match the performance in gaming of a i5-4690K OC 4.5Ghz.

The difference is, that you'll have way more friends if you have a pentium.

The 4790k is your next step up. The i5 would have been a better option for solely gaming since the i7 doesn't have any benefits in games(other than games which utilize hyperthreading such as BF4 and Crysis3). The i7 isworth the extra £80 though when you decide to do editing/rendering.

I have an old Dell that has a pentium... does that count?
