Well I'm just going by personal experience, I have a 1080p TN 24" monitor nest to my 1080p 21.5" IPS monitor the color depth is serious and the lighter tones are drastically improved. But in all seriousness, i can see the difference and it even annoys me...
Mind you i have a crappt TN LED next to a AH-IPS panel, so it's like one end of the scale to the other.

I'm not saying i can't notice the difference, but if i'm gaming/watching it soon goes away.
I hadn't thought about that - perhaps it's improved a little. :-)

Linear wrote Seriously i use both, not that i game a lot at work, but i read text and designed forms all day, go home and do a similar thing and i don't say i notice much difference.
21.5" at 1080p is a horrible experience for me, everything is so small when you squish it into that aspect ratio.
I'm not sure how the 20% difference in area can make such a difference, but it's your money to spend, of course. I also see IPS as an absolute necessity at 60 Hz because the response time is arguably irrelevant below a certain point.
