so i'm at the store and i want 1 month of Xbox live.. they don't have it but they have a 10dollar Xbox code that puts 10 dollar on your Xbox.. can i buy Xbox live with that on my Xbox one?

No, these $10 or 10 GBP codes are what replaced Microsoft Points so their now recognised as Microsoft Currency. You use these to buy DLC and Digital Contect through xBox Live.

It's a pain but these two are sold differently. It's only 1month, 3month and 12month XBL they sell you in Stores.
