SpicyTM wroteSanctorum wroteSpicyTM wrote a 3770K is OP and you dont need to spend that much at all an i5 will do you good
MicroATX at the price of an ATX which is better
RAM IS WAY WAY WAY WAY OVERPRICED GOD DAMN
Same with the case
you can get a cheaper PSU and be better
go with this the one you have is terrible not in performance but in price
You know if a build is good when the price is 420

What on earth are you talking about? Why would you recommend a build for 400 less than OP's budget?

Craigyy's build is far superior.
3770k is oooold, try to buy new components as opposed to older components. Not only that but a "k" class CPU is pointless on a B75 chipset board as the mobo won't support overclocking. 750 Ti is uber low end for an 820 budget. 750W PSU made me lol since even a 300W PSU could power your build. 16GB RAM is pointless unless you do lots of editing/rendering. I'd prefer to see an SSD in a build with a budget that large. That case is expensive and huge for your build.
On to SpicyTM's build. FX-6300 is a bad choice since a Pentium G3258 is less expensive and out-performs the FX-6300. 2x4GB RAM is superior to 1x8GB. R7 260X is a lower end GPU. PSU isn't great and there's really no need for an optical drive since almost everything(if not, everything) can be downloaded anyway. If you do need an optical dive, you could just purchase an external optical drive when you actually need it. Also, it's 400 under budget..
Craigyy's build is good, but you could get an OS for free(Ubuntu is free anyway, or you could get Windows for free by 'alternative' methods). That would igve you more money for components. Personally, with 820, I'd get something like this;

So, it's slightly over and granted, itincludes an i7 which wouldn't be extremely beneficial as you're looking for a gaming build but an i7 is well withing your budget, unless you go with an i5-4460 and 512GB SSD. Since you're not overclocking, you don't need a "k" class CPU or Z97 chipset board and a B85 board will do perfectly fine. 2x4GB RAM will be fine for gaming and the Tri-X R9 290 is a great, high end card. A 550W PSU is more than enough to power that build and XFX make fantastic quality units. The H440 is a beautiful case with great cable management and that one matches the colour of your GPU. A 128GB SSD would suffice for installing your OS to for faster boot/load times and a 2TB HDD is more than enough for backup storage.
Just because he has a high budget doesnt mean he has to waste it on OP parts and dual channel is good with APU builds and its not an APU and why are you telling him to get Ubuntu when he can just buy Win7? and i7's are the more expensive version of i5's and the 6300 is good and i dont know where you get your info but a pentium does not out perform the 6300 so you would suggest dual core over 6 core because its less expensive any good GPU today will instantly bottleneck the pentium unless its a really crappy one and the case so what pretty much all custom cases has cable management and you will pay extra for the looks? thats what Apple does
and if he really does want to spend his max budget he can include dual monitors extra case fans and perph
Lol'd big time at this whole thread haha. The feels are reel.

Technically no, but if he was asking for a PC around that price, why on earth would you buy one for half the price, it just doesn't make any sense.

Dual channel will only help marginally, not enough to worry about, Faster RAM will help more.
SpicyTM wrote

Because it's better.
SpicyTM wrote
the 6300 is good and i dont know where you get your info but a pentium does not out perform the 6300
Yes the 6300 is a decent CPU for the money, but the Pentium is an absolute steal. I swapped my 6300 for a Pentium. And yes, on single core performance the Pentium beats the 6300 hands down every single time.
SpicyTM wrote

Yes, because it's better in every single way.

I have never heard so much crap in all my life, please go use Yahoo
Nuff said.
PENTIUMS ARE LYFE

This can't be real, you're trolling right? Am I on camera?

Here's a question- if you have a $100,000 budget for a car, do you go and get the best you can get for that price, or spend $1000 on a banger? You spend as much as possible to get the best you can for your money, PC's are the exact same. I never told him to get Ubuntu, merely suggested it as it's a free OS. Win7 can also be obtained for free. Show me some proof of an FX-6300 out-performing a Pentium G3258.. do it, seriously. You can't, you'll find that a G3258 out-performs an FX-6300 by a fairly large amount considering the prices of each CPU. If you actually look back, I recommended an i7 in my build, not a Pentium. However, a Pentium G3258 would not bottleneck any GPU. Did you actually say dual channel is only beneficial with an APU? ok then. I literally have no idea what you're trying to say about the case. Genuinely, I just couldn't understand it. If he really does want to spend his entire budget, which he does(and should), he should definitely not spend it on dual monitors and peripherals and you'll like this one, extra case fans. I mean, sure, maybe an extra fan or two but if you want to spend £400 on fans, well, actually.. be my guest. Do it, go and spend £400 on fans.
Finally, "and i7's are the more expensive version of i5's". Well, no. i7's offer hyperthreading, whereas i5's do not.If your budget allows an i7, get an i7(unless there is something else which you could upgrade instead, such as SSD, GPU, case etc. The i7 will be much better than an i5 in multi-taskling or programs like Photoshop and After effects. It's also going to perform better in BF4 and Crysis 3.
