Swatting is used for intimidation. What better way to make you fearful than to send a group of fully armed SWAT members to break down your door. The concept is alien to all those who are not part of the community, they find it impossible to understand why they would do that and instead turn to "Trolling" as the answer thats simply not the case.

The fact of the matter is this, 50% of hacking is Social Engineering the other 50% is technical hacking. If you are scared or intimidated you are more than likely to make a mistake or slip up in your security procedures (if you even have any) therefore making the technical hacking much easier.
