My step-dad is Egyptian and he is Muslim but doesn't practice it, he is very Americanized and if you met him you wouldn't even notice he was. I don't have a problem with them unless they have a problem with me.

Yin wrote For the same reason the American people hated the Japanese (even their innocent civilians) after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. It is this ignorant mindset some people have that think that all of them are that way. It is an irrational fear they have. It's kind of depressing really.

But I've never really seen hate for the Japanese people. They bombed us and we nuked them. I think we're kind of neutral with the Japanese for now in terms of Americans and Japanese people disliking each other.

Yea, we are now. If we can get out of these wars in the Middle East, we will end up being neutral with the Muslim countries as well. At least our country hasn't put Muslim's in internment camps like they did to the Japanese-Americans. At least there is that line that appears we won't cross in today's society.

I realise this is a sensitive subject, but most Muslims (not sure on exact figures) think everyone who doesn't believe in what they believe in will burn in hell.

I personally think they're deluded.

imgur wrote Most wouldn't be the correct term to use. Are there some? Sure, there's some people who live in America who hate Muslims, Jews, religious people, atheists, etc.

It is far from most Americans, there are close minded people everywhere. It has nothing to do with Americans, or Muslims. Every country has people who are narrow minded and ignorant.

Well where I'm from its kind of bad. A lot of people here think poorly of Muslims. Even my dad. I tried talking to him about it but he's got his mind set that the Quaran (I think that's how you spell it. Correct me if I'm wrong) only teaches violence and to kill anyone who doesn't agree with the religion.

There's a difference between hating an ideology, and hating those who practice it.
If he's saying that the Quran teaches violence against non-Muslims, which it does, he is not being racist or Islamophobic.
You can critique a text without critiquing those who follow it.

Unless he has explicitly said that he hates all Muslims, you aren't understanding his point.

How do you know the Quran teaches violence?? I'm pretty sure it does not. Most Muslims are loving people. Like take into consideration that Adolf Hitler considered himself part of the Christian belief. So are all Christians bad? No. It's how people interpret the Bible, Quran, or whatever religious book.

There are 109 verses in the Quran which call Muslims to violence against non-Muslims.
Some Muslims hold verses which tell them to love their fellow man in higher regard than these verses, some do not, but they are still there.

"Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not." - 2:216
This verse's context is that Muhammad was trying to motivate his people into raiding merchant caravans for plunder, so the Quran is most definitely not prescribing violence only for self defence.

You're still not seeing the point here though.
Just because I can point out these things and say that Islam is not a religion of peace, that does not mean that there aren't peaceful Muslims.
I enjoy the Silence of the Lambs, this does not make me a cannibal.

'The Muslims'
Which Muslims? All Muslims? I know Muslims, they are not planning for world dominance.
You see pictures like that and make sweeping generalizations about over 1.6 billion people?
