I actually just seen something on twitter that says" A $849 64 IPhone 5s only cost Apple $218 to build." Like most products you are only paying for the brand.

As well as research and development, manufacturing, advertising, shipping, salaries, packaging, software services, warranty, software updates, etc. There's a lot more overhead than just the components.

No one ever thinks about all those, just the parts used in building the machine.

But still there getting you with what i call "Brand Markup". As I stated before they get to charge you for a name brand. Nike makes it shoes for less then $20 in Indian children factories but then sells them for $250+. Same thing with Gucci and Coach handbags, designer shoes, and thing with a big name brand. Its economics. They hire people and pay them 6-7 digit salaries to find the point where they still get the most sales for the highest price. And the worst part is that it works.

They charge what people are willing to pay and I don't see how this is a bad thing. It makes our economy work.

Any factory unlocked phone is going to cost you a pretty penny.

1) Supply & Demand makes it that price. Whether you like Apple or not, their is in fact a huge demand for their products.

2) Apple can put whatever price they want honestly and people WILL buy their stuff, because of the first reason.

3) They have to make a profit. If they sold their stuff for what they make it, they wouldn't be in business.
