I was watching this video of an Irish Traveller called Big Joe Joyce, he said that before a bare-knuckle boxing match/fight he used to steep his hands in petrol for 15 minutes, and in return he said they'd be as solid as a rock. So I want to know would this actually work?

Chances are not. I mean, I work on engines on a regular basis, and when I spill even just a little petrol on me, after a minute or so of not wiping it and washing it off, it will start to feel like it burning, and make you go a little tingly.

I don't think they'd make his hands rock hard really.

Well there's an easy way to find out.
Do it, and then have someone hit your hand with a sledgehammer, you should know quickly enough.

It sounds like a placebo effect, or nocebo, depending on your opinion of bare knuckle boxing.

You can't say that, a spill and 15 minutes are very different.

I dont think he would mean that it'd make his hands hard but it would probably numb them, right?

Yeah this wouldn't work. With all of the chemicals in petrol it just wouldn't be possible to sustain the pain which would happen with that.
