Heyy guys,

Soon to be getting my first car and looking at insurance prices, and obviously, all the cheapest quotes have a Black Box fitted. Just wondering if anyone has one in their car? Whats it like? Have you ever been caught speeding etc. due to it?

Can they just automatically fine you if you go over the speed limit even if your not caught doing it?
What else does it track?
Thanks!

Yes I do.

No issues with it at all it doesn't fine you for speeding it's just you won't get any money back if you tend do drive too fast or lots of acceleration.

It does restrict what times you drive but I rarely drive outside of those times so it makes no difference.

Oh, so you can't drive past a certain time? Like a curfew sort of thing?

Yeah.

You can still drive but it brings your points down, less points=less chance of money back at least that's how it works for me.

Had a rebate of 50 quid this year and 100 the year before. Not really sure how they work this out.

If it's a good deal and you don't drive really late/early then go for it as long as you don't drive like a moron.

I've got one, it monitors my speed, usage and smoothness (braking and accelerating). I have no curfew on mine but I do have a mileage allowance, which is 4000 miles, more than what I needed. I would recommend it cos it has made my insurance so much cheaper. Still poor though, cars cost so much (

I can't fit one on my car but I wouldn't really want one in the first place. Yes, the insurance is cheaper but I don't really want something monitoring exactly how I drive.

4,000 miles a year?

Damn I got my car with 10 miles on it in may and already have 5,000 miles on it.

ive had a black box on my car now for nearly a year. At first i made sure i was going the speed limit. But then i tend not to be as cautious. I would have a score update every week to say how my driving was out of 100 percent. it would percentage my night driving, braking, acceleration and speed. Every report i have had has been overall excellent. Dont be scared if you go over the speed limit, as you cant watch your speed clock 24/7. As long as your not doing over the speed limit by 10mph. so doing 35 on a 30 road is fine.. which is what i have done for the past 11 months. And yeah i would say its worth it as you have nothing to lose really unless you drive like an idiot.
