YouTube will not get you money to pay the bills to feed your kids if you ever have any which I do (won't go into that) won't get you a nice car won't get you money for insurance won't get you a nice house won't get you money for anything really that is actually needed

If you actually make it big, you will be able to buy a house, support your family, buy a car (probably multiple tbh) etc.

Look at PewDiePie.

10 Mill will be more than enough to survive on. And his job is making videos and entertaining people on YouTube.

Absolutely nothing why would you want that people need to step into the real world of life and need to see you can't make a living off of something that was just made for fun

I know many big youtubers have made a career off of just having fun whether it be playing games or any other videos.

ENTERTAINMENT

What do you think Actors are, Comedians, etc. THEY'RE ALL ENTERTAINERS!

So your point is invalid.

You missed the point, you have a very very slim chance of actually becoming a successful youtuber... the odds are astronomical
and you people which are the haters, are the ones that push them to do it!

Good point. I didn't quite understand what he was trying to say. I think OP could have delivered this topic differently. He should have focused on how it is not likely for them to become famous. HOWEVER, It isn't that difficult for you to get attention on Youtube. If people like your content then you will be popular. I do agree that You Tube shouldn't be your main career goal (I think that was his point).

Absolutely. I don't think he meant to say that nobody can make a career out of Youtube.
Only that it is very hard to do it properly and make a substantial amount of money from it.

We can't all be like Pewdiepie.

Lil_Bibby wrote So to your wife and kids what do you tell them when you are going work and just into the next room?

I'm confident that anyones wife and kid wouldn't give a care in the world. Reasons for this, is if you were actually pulling in a good amount of money from doing these things on YouTube... then they're happy because you're actually pulling in a lot of money. Also, you're at home... well, assuming you do these youtube things at home. So you also get the benefit of spending more time at home with your own family, I see a lot of plus sides to making YouTube a career/job/whatever you want to call it. Personally I wouldn't do it, because it's to much effort to get noticed.

Sorry but i beg to differ, we will take KSI for exmaple.

He paid for his mom/dads house, he lives in a fairly big house with his friends and he owns a Porsche.

And PewDiePie, he makes a great living from youtube.

I actually agree with you; for the vast majority of people, YouTube isn't a career. Sure, there's PewDiePie, Smosh, and a select few thousand who get paid thousands, even millions for videos that they post on YouTube. But again, they're the select few.

I don't think he's trying to say that YouTube itself isn't a viable career for everyone, because it is a career for a few people. But, since only a couple thousand people can actually generate enough money to live off of YouTube, and turn it into an actual career, it is a very hard industry to come close to making a living in. As a result, for most people, it is not a career, but a hobby.

YouTube, for most people will not make enough money for them to pay their bills, feed kids, etc. And for most people, YouTube is just a hobby, not an actual career where they get paid enough to sustain themselves.

People might mention acting, professional sports, etc, and say that the same rules apply. And largely, they do. Only a few can truly call professional sports a career, and those are people who play in leagues and get compensation for what they do. For the rest, it's a hobby, not a career. Same with acting, and other interests.

I just thought I could add something here. What you guys are basically saying and encouraging (from what I understand) is that you shouldn't try and it's a waste of time. That's the same thing people told Eminem when they booed him offstage or told pewdiepie (I'm sure at one point or another his family or friends told him to not waste his time) when he first started. We need people in this world who don't look at statistics and give up. Who knows someone reading this could be the next Payton Manning or Eminem, if they continue to pursue the thing they want as a career. I'm sure if you were on a football team and you guys were at 20 to nothing lose you would feel discouraged yes, but your coach would say you could still win it, and if you all you do is look at statistics (or peoples opinions) you'll give up or worse, forfeit. Most teams have won superbowls, leagues, and even entire seasons coming back from a hard loosing streak that people and statistics would say they couldn't recover from. Often times it's the people who ignore discouragement that beat the odds and become famous, which applies to "real life" and anything else you would want to do.

No, I'm not saying that you shouldn't try, I'm saying that you should treat it as a hobby, and not as a career. If you get famous in the process and get a good living in the process, great. People didn't tell PewDiePie that he couldn't be famous, because he wasn't trying to be. He was simply a guy with a camera and a video game who posted videos online because he enjoyed doing them. That's essentially the story of every YouTuber. No famous YouTuber started out because they wanted this to be a career, they started it as a hobby which turned into a career.

When kids join YouTube, and just want to become famous and rich, it doesn't work that way. The people who are successful on YouTube are those who started for fun. Very small amounts of YouTubers actually make it, which is why it's almost impossible to get a living through the service.

As for the football analogy, I'll modify it slightly. Let's say you're losing 80 to 0, and there's 10 minutes left within the game. Then do you think you can win? This, is what YouTube is more like.
