Is this a good build for gaming and some schoolwork? I'm new at building my own PC and I really want to start

intel is the way to go.

Overclock the Pentium, add an ssd later on and an after market cooler.

No, you could do much better. This is a far superior build for your budget;

Better CPU, GPU and PSU, as well as the benefit of having an SSD. Motherboard BIOS will need updated but that's not an issue. You can then overclock the G3258 to take full advantage of it.
