When he forms a blackhole, run in a different direction as fast as you can and force yourself against the barrier (if you can.) And when he slams both of his fists on the ground, jump. Otherwise your shield will be drained and most of your health will be gone.

I finished him with ease solo when he was a raid boss, had done it as split-screen co-op previously. If you find it difficult solo, having a partner might not be the best idea as the more players in a game the more stronger enemies become, this could result in you getting a tougher fight for even the two of you. Best option to go for is to have a powerful rocket launcher to spam him when he gives big trouble, otherwise a good powered SMG should have him down with ease. As Lilitha stated, watch for his attacks, and jump when you have to. Keep moving around him, keeping his face just in firing line. There is a time when he will cause platforms to float up, get on one asap and it'll help for that attack from him. Non-elemental attacks are a good idea, unless you can work out the weaknesses each elemental type has, or want to just spam with a good explosive weapon.
