Can this still be done as a free upgrade, and also, do you end up with two copies for two platforms or does it take the 360 one away from you?

Yeah, you have untill Match 2015 to upgrade. Once you upgrade you lose the current gen version! Xbox 360/PS3

Xbox support said that you lose the 360 version once you have downloaded it on 360. Guess we'll just wait for some one to confirm. But I'm just quoting some one from MS
