I am new to pc building and I was wondering what cpu is better?

Just want to know what is better because I've been told that amds quad core stuff is a marketing scheme to get you to but there product's

what board are you using? the socket types are different and im pretty sure its not interchangeable

Pentium has more powerful cores and two of them, while the AMD has four pretty weak cores. I'd say Pentium is your best bet, but yes they are not interchangeable if you already own a motherboard.

use the website pc partpicker. it helps you pick compatible parts and gives you a rough price for the overall build

Don't use PCPP, it's a pain. Scan is your best option for components in the UK, really. Get the Pentium G3258, best budget CPU.

Doesn't usually take shipping costs into consideration, and it often gets prices wrong.
