The only real risk is that you'll end up in a position where you're forced to restore your phone.

Providing any valuable data is backed up, there is very little risk.

The iOS jailbreaking scene is very safe compared to how it used to be; you'll be fine

(Besides, if something goes wrong, post a thread here and we'll be able to sort it out for you)

The act of jailbreaking your iDevice presents no risk at all. However, being stupid and not doing research about tweaks and what not before hand can be a problem. What I mean by that, is...some tweaks and what not can hurt your device if you are not careful before installing.

my iPhone 5s has been jailbroken since iOS 7.0 ands far no problems knock on wood and jailbreaking an iPhone 4 will definitely slow it down because of the old A4 processor can't handle all of the tweaks but an arm 64 device handles it well id definitely warn against jailbreaking your iPhone 4 unless you want it to be slow and crash all the time but thats just my two cents
