Sounds like your Xbox's disc tray is having some issues.

Try the pot tweak

The only thing you need is a multimeter and to open your xbox

Search on youtube for a tutorial mine would hardly read disks at all then i did the pot tweak and now it works as good as new

This is the best method to fix this, as the "bang on your xbox" fix does work, it'll only break your xbox in a couple months, I've been there. The pot fix is really easy and is going to be one of the only ways, if not the only way to fix the Open Tray error.

If not, you can try getting a new laser, but I would try the pot fix first.
