Someone told me if you purchase a game on xbox 360 demand you can download the xbox one version for free is this true?

This is partially true.

Some games have this option not all. For instance Call of Duty Advanced Warfare has this option.

It only works with certain games. The only games I know of it working with are Call of Duty Ghosts and Advanced Warfare.

It works with certain games.
Advanced Warfare has the option to do this.
I think Destiny can aswell.
