put said game on USB? I have Borderlands 2 on demand so do I have to put it onto my hard drive to install the DLC?

I do not believe that is necessary, it should work fine on the USB

What do I do, can`t find any tutorials and this is the first I`ve even heard of DRM-free games and DLC. Do I just place the DLC on my flashdrive and transfer it onto my xbox?

Put it through using horizon. just click save to device and then click rehash it should work.
