Hello guys, I'm currently building a PC for a friend and he has a 385 GBP budget, however already has a desktop with RAM, a HDD and the Optical drive. Due to his 120 GBP saving, he can still make a great PC and I've been thinking of it for a while now. Currently as it stands I have it like this:

CPU - AMD FX-8320
GPU - nVidia GeForce GTX 760 (Gigabyte Windforce OC)
MoBo - Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3
PSU - EVGA 500B 500W Bronze+ PSU (Budget PSU, yet still reliable)
Case - CiT Black Widow mATX (He chose this god awful case, not me, before anybody rips my head off)

Overall totals at about 365 GBP I believe, saving him a bit of cash.

However I was thinking earlier on about the Intel Pentium Anniversary G3258 and how it's a decent CPU and has amazing bang for buck. I was thinking about implementing this CPU and coupling that with 770 for an extra 20 quid.

So if it went that way the build would be as so:

CPU - Intel Pentium Anniversary G3258
GPU - nVidia GeForce GTX 770
MoBo - MSI H81M or something along those lines
PSU - EVGA 500B 500W Bronze+ PSU (Should be capable of running this build)
Case - Black Widow again (HIS CHOICE)

385-390 GBP Total

So my question to you is, would spending an extra 20 GBP and using the Anniversary in tandem with the 770 be better running games and attain a higher frame rate (after all this is largely for gaming and watching the occasional video) than the 8320 and the 760?

Cheers.

i would look at

An i5 + B85 board and an r9 280.

No matter what you do go with intel it has a much better upgrade path.

To be fair, I do agree with getting the 280. However whereas you're correct with the upgrade path I just think It'd be better to just get a new MoBo and a new CPU when he needs too.

The I5 will most probably out perform the 8320.

And if he decided to Upgrade then he would lose quite abit of money.

But if you are adamant on going with AMD then what was the Budget of the card? Because you could either get the r9 290 or if the budget was higher for the card then a gtx 970 which will both be better options then the Gtx 770. I'd also go with the XFX 550W unit or the seasonic 520w.

I've included the attached budget, which is essentially why I am adamant on not getting the i5 lol, If I could flat out afford it, I would get it.

I have a budget of 385 pound sterling.

Currently it's looking like this:

CPU - AMD FX-8320
GPU - AMD Radeon R9 280
MoBo - Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3
PSU - EVGA 500W
Case - CiT Black Widow

I also must stress that the only reason I'm not heeding what you've said is purely budget based. I own a 550W XFX myself, just he cannot afford that small increase realistically. He's doing it on a shoestring and to be frank the EVGA 500W is probably the only other PSU I'd use that's not Seasonic, Corsair or XFX made.

You grouped together the mobo and psu and case in the budget but im guessing you just mean the CPU and GPU.

No, I'm afraid the PSU and MoBo have to be incorporated too. Sorry I didn't make it clear enough however that would be great for him, the parts attached.

I think it'll be the 8320, 280, 78LMT MoBo, EVGA PSU and that god awful case. Anyway, thanks for your help man.

Overclock that 270 for equal performance of a 270x

4440>8320

Much better case than that CIT PoS that you was going to give him.

NEIN NEIN NEIN, I definitely didn't want him to get that case. Let's get that shit straight. He wanted "flashy LED's" to look attractive. Yes, I know It's vulgar but... his choice, not mine. Plus I also own an N200 and I know how good it is for it's measly price.

Anyway cheers for the suggestions, I'll be sure to relay it to him.

Get him it and say "be grateful for what you get"

If he still says no, just buy him a set of Christmas lights and throw them in there.

Got to be better right?
