So I installed the i7-4790K @ 4.0GHz but it uses turbo mod so when I enter a game it reaches 4.4GHz but everytime I enter a game, my computer freezes, is it a cooling issue? Do I need to get extra fans?
thanks.
here's my system,
Processor: Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0GHz
Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS Formula LGA 1150
Memory: 32GB RAM HyperX 1600MHz
Graphics Card: GTX 780 6GB
Power Supply: ANTEC True Power 550W
thanks.

First update: Turned off Turbo Mode in the BIOS to keep it from reaching to 4.4GHz and make it stay at it's Original speed of 4.0GHz but no luck, still freezing in games only.

Yup, the stock cooler that came with it.
To be more specific the only stuff I changed was the CPU and the Memory.
Before: i7-4770K @ 3.5GHz with Turbo at 3.9GHz
After: i7-4790K @ 4.0GHz with Turbo at 4.4GHz
and went from 16GB Ram at 1600MHz to 32GB Ram at 1600MHz.

That could possibly be your problem. Have you looked at your temps?

I would highly advise getting a new cooler, how much are you willing to spend?

my asshat of a motherboard isn't compatible with the processor.
I made sure they were both Intel and Both LGA 1150
what I didn't know is that each motherboard has compatibility list of processors.

What?
If its LGA 1150 it will be compatible, just give it a quick BIOS update and see what that does, if it isn't compatible.
We need more info on the freezing shit tho. What are the temps when it freezes?

Whut wrote my asshat of a motherboard isn't compatible with the processor.I'm assuming you'll have a Z87 chipset board since you had the 4770k? You should be able to update the BIOS to run the 4790k properly.
