Bitcoin may have hit gold with big business and mining companies, but to the average Bitcoin user, the odd purchase of coffee or the occasional purchase of a gift card, may be the only use for Bitcoin.

With everyday bitcoin users forced to use fiat to pay for everyday necessities at their local supermarkets, many have become disgruntled and worried at the slow pace of Bitcoin adoption into the real world. However, with Spar now officially accepting Bitcoin in the Netherlands, all is set to change in the field of decentralized consumer shopping.

Thomas Piketty of NU.nl explains the simple system put into place by the store to aide customers in their first bitcoin purchase outside of the internet.

Spar is the first known shop of a large chain in the Netherlands that accepts bitcoins, says store manager Luke van Gelder. Bitcoingebruikers load the payment on their mobile phone or tablet. The supermarket has itself a bitkassa a tablet on which the amount is struck. The buyer takes out his phone down a code and there is paid. The shop receives the purchase amount in euros in the bank account.

Nice to see the Netherlands setting the precedent here - Would love to see similar implementations over in the UK

Pretty decent bitcoin is coming to shops.

However, Spar is the biggest rip off of a shop, its sooo expensive!

This is actually quite interesting to hear about. I was just reading up on this company and looking at their logo design as well if I am honest.
