It was proven, and if you search a little bit youll find it.
Don't talk shit. People spend real money in this forum and if you tell them false information and they believe you, they could waste their hard earned money. If it's been proven that AMD beat Intel, link us to your source, prove it. Don't expect us to do it for you, back up your own argument.

OP-Overclocking on the G3258 with stock cooler is fine. You definitely don't need an aftermarket cooler to OC it but keep a close ye on temps. If it starts getting hot, invest in an aftermarket cooler. Though, I'd reccommend saving for an AIO cooler with at least a 240mm rad so that when, and if you upgrade to an i5/i7, you won't have to upgrade cooler too.

He's just spamming for post count don't mind him. Anyways an amd is okay on very small budgets. But I wouldn't waste my money on an amd CPU because no upgrade paths. Amd used to be the way to go but they're old and outdated. For now Intel is they way to go. Maybe one day AMD will come out with something new that can compete just stick to Intel for now. Good luck on your build.

Well, here is my 2 cents.

I moved away from AM3 since there was no upgrade path and I was looking for something better.

The Pentium was to introduce me into the world of Haswell and how it overclocks. I can afford to push it further than I would with an I5 where it is so cheap.

[this does link in with my argument, just bare with me]

So this means that I am currently pushing the Pentium at 1.51/2 ish volts 24/7. It does this while being cool, calm and collected. Good luck trying to do the same with AMD

With AMD, you need a higher clock speed to get the performance you need from them cores. They are weak cores so with a higher clock speed, the faster it will run.

However, trying to push even 4.4 Ghz is enough to keep your whole house warm during the winter.

People think, AMD is for budget builds. However, if you plan on going with an 83** then & want to overclock, your going to need a high end motherboard and cooling system which isnt worth it.

Even if you dont want to overclock, there is better options. The 4440 is roughly the same price and will match its performance.

So: If you want to run low end games like MC, LOL and whatever else, the Pentium is really good option.

If you want to run decent games like GTA, Far cry and so on, you'll be best with an I5, whether that will be a 4440, 4460 or a 4690[k], all will be better than anything AMD will put out.

If you want heating for your house in the winter months, overclock an 8320

This now worry's me because the games I want to play are not "Games best used with an i5" and I want to play those games with the Pentium. Do you think with a game such as GTA would be playable while using a Pentium?

Not a chance.

Dont get me wrong, the Pentium is an amazing chip. But if you want to be playing the newest of games, your going to need a powerful rig.

Look at far cry 4. The game wont even open if you have a dual core CPU.

That really surprises me. The Intel Pentium can almost perform as good as an I7 under load yet cannot perform on games such as GTA, Far Cry etc. Shame. I had until now believed it could due to others running it so well.

The G3258 doesn't perform as well as an i7. Two systems with the same specs, comparing 4790k and G3258, then yes, the 4790k will hold it's own in games that don't require more than 2 cores. The 4790k has 8 threads though so any games that utilise more than 2 cores and anything else, such as editing/rendering/multi-tasking, the 4790k takes the crown obviously. AW and FC4 refused to launch with a dual core but as far as i'm aware, you can get around that now so the G3258 will run them, but it's about that time were dual cores are becoming obsolete so an upgrade to a quad core would be wise asap. We can't really know if GTA V will run on the G3258 but I would assume it'll be the same as FC4 and AW, but there will probably be a work around.

I think im going to spend the extra money and go get a i5 4690k. Also how much extra GHz could I get when I OC it with an aftermarket fan cooler?

Depends what cpu cooler, 4690K's can achieve a GHz of 4.8 providing you have the best cooling like a H100i or better. I'm pretty sure even on the stock fan you can get a decent overclock. If you were on a budget you could get a cooler master seidon 120v, but the better option would be to settle with a small OC on the stock cooler and save for a good AIO water cooler.

I would never oc on a stock cooler. Atleast get an evo for 30$. And a h100i isn't even close to the "best." Just good price for performance.

I've seen a lot of people turn to intels. I'm not the best when it comes down to computers but it seems like it is becoming the way to go.
